PUCM Hosts Private Screening of Film 'Dear You'
China Entrepreneurs Association In Malaysia (PUCM) held an exclusive private screening of the film Dear You at TGV Cinemas KLCC on 18 June, drawing nearly 200 enthusiastic members to attend. On the Malaysian premiere day of the production, members relived the century-long struggles of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia through the silver screen, experiencing their unwavering devotion to their homeland while building lives abroad. The venue was filled with a warm atmosphere, striking a profound chord with all overseas Chinese present.
Dato’ Keith Li, President of PUCM, shared remarks during an on-site interview. He stated that Dear You uses delicate, down-to-earth cinematography to recreate the hardships endured by earlier generations of Chinese migrants who crossed vast oceans to build livelihoods from scratch, as well as the resilience and profound affection embedded in handwritten letters sent across seas. These historical vignettes resonate deeply with the entrepreneurial journeys of contemporary new Chinese migrants and businesspeople based in Malaysia. Beyond that, the film carries profound educational value on overseas Chinese history, inspiring reverence for the spirit of forebears and a commitment to passing it on.
Dato’ Keith Li emphasised that gratitude for one’s origins and the passing down of heritage form the enduring spiritual foundation of overseas Chinese communities. This collective screening aimed to guide members to reflect on the arduous journeys of their predecessors and uphold their diligent, enterprising spirit. It also encourages modern Chinese businesspeople in Malaysia to stay true to their original aspirations, deepen their roots in the local market, and collaborate for shared growth. PUCM will continue to leverage the industrial strengths of its member enterprises to build a bridge for trade and cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia. Relying on overseas Chinese communities as a vital link and uniting people through shared sentiments, the federation will help elevate bilateral friendly cooperation to new heights.
Dato’ Keith Li revealed that PUCM will regularly organise cultural exchange events and gatherings for the overseas Chinese community in the future. These initiatives seek to unify overseas Chinese hearts, integrate resources, consolidate the foundation of people-to-people friendship between China and Malaysia, and continuously leverage the strength of Chinese enterprises in Malaysia to advance in-depth two-way integration and cooperation between the two nations.
The private screening garnered robust support from PUCM’s corporate members, with representatives present from Beijing Urban Construction Group, China Telecom, China Unicom, China Communications Services, MCI Media Group, Niufu Holdings, GenAI Capital, Flyco Electrical Appliances, LBS Super Logistics and other enterprises.
Distinguished guests were also invited to join the event, including multiple representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, Petronas, the Silk Road Group, and several Chinese chambers of commerce and associations operating in Malaysia, all coming together for this meaningful occasion.
